A quick tour of the technology we use to examine your eyes

Patients of View Eye Care appreciate having a comprehensive and thorough eye examination using the latest technology in retinal, macular & optic nerve imaging, scanning and assessment. Some testing is routinely performed each year, while other more in-depth diagnostic testing is done on those with suspicious findings.

    • Optomap Digital Retinal Imaging (OptosTM)

The Optomap retinal exam offers an ultra-wide field view of the retina (the inside lining of the eye). This scan is helpful both in detection of anomalies and pathologies and for accurately documenting and monitoring healthy eyes for changes throughout one's life. The process is quick and painless and can often be done without the use of dilating drops.

    • Heidelberg HRT

The Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT) is a proven tool for the early detection and managing glaucoma, a symptomless, sight-threatening disease. HRT is extremely valuable in monitoring those with known risk factors for glaucoma especially when used in combination with the Heidelberg Edge Perimeter (HEP). The two instruments share their collected data and are able to compare optic nerve structure (HRT) with optic nerve function (HEP).

    • Automated Visual Field Analysis

Visual Field testing and analysis can be instrumental in quantifying different forms of vision loss and can even help determine where in the eye, the optic nerves or the brain, the issue may be arising from. The Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer 3 (HFA3) is the gold standard, state of the art instrument for this type of testing. It allows doctors to choose from various testing strategies to help diagnose and manage various conditions. Visual fields are particularly helpful in detecting many ocular conditions such as glaucoma & macular degeneration, as well as brain tumors & stokes. The tests also allow optometrists to monitor certain systemic issues that can impact the eyes, like medication toxicity caused by certain specific drugs.

    • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technology used to obtain very high resolution cross-sectional images of the retina at the back of the eye. Unlike ultra sound, OCT uses light rather than sound to generate and image. OCT measures the retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in glaucoma and other diseases of the optic nerve. It is the most accurate way to detect, diagnose, monitor and manage macular degeneration and other retinal conditions.
